WAQOO Naritasan Monzen is a culture-oriented luxury hotel on the approach to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. This "overnight kabuki museum" displays a collection from the Ichikawa Danjuro kabuki family, which has close ties with the temple. Enjoy staying in this modern Japanese-style space, with "kaiseki" cuisine featuring an original arrangement of Kyoto-style dishes. Tsurigasaki Beach, known as a "surfing dojo," is packed with surfers year-round thanks to its consistently superb waves. This beach hosted the surfing events during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Many top professional and amateur surfers are spotted there, so visitors have the special chance to see these world-class athletes in person. If you want to join them, you can rent a surfboard and wetsuit at many stores near the beach. Along with surfing, it’s also a popular spot for watching the stars at night and the sunrise.

Mount Nokogiri, on Chiba Prefecture's Boso Peninsula, is known for its stone production. Nokogiri, meaning "sawtooth," gets its name from the tooth-like sharp rock surface where the stone is quarried. Mount Nokogiri can be enjoyed as a day trip from central Tokyo, as it’s close to a train station, with a ropeway and a road up the mountainside. There are also many safe climbing trails for beginners. No matter your age or physical limits, there’s plenty to enjoy here. With a sharply rising cliff, Jigoku Nozoki ("peer into hell") offers a spectacular view of the Boso Peninsula. Guided hiking tours to Japanese temples and other sites are also available.

Maruhama, located near the ferry terminal connecting Tokyo Bay with Kanaya Port, offers a delicious seafood barbecue. The scents of the ocean permeate the restaurant as you can hear the sizzle of seafood being grilled. Dine on seafood barbecue year-round with the ocean right nearby. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet of seafood, scallops, turban shells ("sazae"), oysters, and desserts. "Kaisen-don" (seafood rice bowl) and "kaisen-ramen" (seafood ramen), which you can make by yourself, are also popular options.

Visitors can discover a great array of local products at The Fish, in Kanaya, Minamiboso. This facility features a restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood while watching the ocean stretching out right before you. There’s also a souvenir area offering well-known local products and a fish market with seafood unique to Minamiboso. Enjoy shopping for local specialties and foods such as seaweed, marine products, dried fish, peanuts, and loquats in a bustling and vibrant atmosphere.

Gallery & Café FUNAKATA SOKO is housed in a renovated 100-year-old Boshu stone warehouse. It's located near the Funakata Fishing Port in the city of Tateyama. The gallery displays works by Kazuo Mizoguchi, a Western-style painter who depicted Minamiboso landscapes. Take your time and appreciate the late artist’s works.

Haraoka Pier, also known as Okamoto Pier, is midway down the Haraoka Coast in the city of Minamiboso. This wooden pier, unusually long in Japan at about 160 meters, offers gorgeous views out to sea. That makes it a popular spot to take photos. On a clear day, you can get shots containing both the pier and Mt. Fuji on the opposite shore. In early May and early August, you can also see a spectacular view of the glimmering "Diamond Fuji," with the setting sun over the top of the famous peak.

Umihotaru Parking Area is no ordinary pitstop – it’s also a sightseeing spot. This is Japan’s first offshore parking area, located at the midpoint of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, which connects the cities of Kawasaki and Kisarazu in Kanagawa and Chiba Prefectures. It's built on a 650-meter-long island, completely surrounded by the sea, offering a panoramic view of Tokyo Bay. This popular spot has stores, places to relax and take a break, and restaurants serving clam dishes and "kaiten" (conveyor-belt) sushi. It’s a stunning place to watch the sunrise, from right in the middle of Tokyo Bay.

This multi-purpose arena, with a capacity of 37,000, houses one of the largest moving systems in the world. The arena normally hosts for music, sports, industry, and cultural events, and was used for basketball in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The adjacent Keyaki Hiroba communal area, with restaurants and stores, is a popular family destination.

The art of bonsai lets viewers enjoy scenes of nature condensed into potted plants. The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, Saitama, centered on the collection of the former Takagi Bonsai Museum of Art, exhibits masterpieces and exquisite bonsai as well as specialized bonsai flowerpots, "suiseki" stones for viewing, and "ukiyo-e" prints in which bonsai appear. These items allow visitors to gain a richer understanding of the art of bonsai. Near the museum is the Omiya Bonsai Village, a celebrated bonsai sanctuary, where some of the bonsai gardens offer classes and workshops. A bonsai workshop at one of these gardens, SEIKOU-EN, is shown in the video.

This restaurant specializing in grilled eel was founded in the Edo period, in 1807. The seventh generation now runs the establishment and continues to carefully preserve the traditional taste handed down over the years. The restaurant’s building, built in the 1910s, was designed by the city of Kawagoe as an important building on the urban landscape.

Kawagoe is also called Koedo, or Little Edo, as it still retains the atmosphere of old Edo (now Tokyo), including traditional Japanese warehouses that can no longer be seen in Tokyo itself. It has been designated as one of Japan's national preservation districts for groups of historic buildings and as having one of the 100 most beautiful historical landscapes in Japan. Amid the area’s overall charm are numerous historical buildings, foods to enjoy as you walk and explore, and souvenir shops. You can also hire a rickshaw to take you around town. All these factors make Kawagoe/Koedo a terrific place for a sightseeing day trip.

Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower), the symbol of Kawagoe, looks over the traditional warehouse townscape. This three-story wooden structure, about 16 meters high, chimes to signal 6:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. every day.

In the dynamic Kawagoe Festival (Kawagoe "matsuri"), spectacular floats are pulled through the town and many pass nearby one another. The festival, dating back some 370 years, is registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. You can experience it at any time if you visit the Kawagoe Festival Museum. Two of the actual floats from the festival are on display in the museum's hall and a large screen shows a video that lets visitors sense the passion and excitement of the day's festivities.

Sake Zukuri no Mori (sake-making forest) is a brewing factory for Chichibu sake producer Chichibu Nishiki, and is surrounded by natural beauty. It also has a museum and sells local products. Here, you can learn about this site’s 270+ years of sake brewing, and purchase sake, "shochu," liqueurs, and other Chichibu specialties. There’s also a tasting corner for trying different varieties of sake.

This "onsen" (hot spring) "ryokan" inn is in a renovated 200-year-old farmhouse with a traditional Japanese house and garden. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in quaint and leisurely Japanese countryside life. Dine on dishes made with local "satoyama" ingredients, such as freshly picked vegetables from the property’s own farm and river fish grown from the clear streams, as well as authentic "chanko-nabe" (sumo stew) made from a recipe passed on by a former head sumo wrestler and served from a pot above the sunken hearth. Soak in a private bath in the traditional Goemon deep tub heated with a wood fire, and head out to the inn’s garden, which houses a wine bar in a converted warehouse. Here, you can sample homemade mountain fruit wine and other fruit wines.

The popular Lake Yamanaka Cycling Road is a superb way to see the sights and enjoy the four seasons around this picturesque lake. This well-maintained route lets cyclists take in the lake’s nature, parks, and access various stores and facilities. The road contains several courses with different levels of difficulty, offering a variety of views of Lake Yamanaka and Mt. Fuji. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Cycling Road Race Course for advanced riders crosses Tokyo, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, and Shizuoka Prefectures. After passing through the Yamabushi Tunnel and arriving at Lake Yamanaka, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of Mt. Fuji.

Yoshida udon, a local specialty in Fujiyoshida City, is characterized by its strong, chewy noodles, said to be the hardest noodles in Japan. They're commonly served in thick broth with boiled cabbage and salty-sweet horse meat. Takekawa Udon is a popular Yoshida udon restaurant near Kawaguchiko Station. The extra-thick, handmade noodles here, pounded over 2 days, are distinctively chewy. For many years, locals, tourists, and anglers have enjoyed these noodles together with miso and soy sauce broth flavored with dashi stock.

From this observation point, you can take in a view of Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Yamanaka, and the World Heritage site, Mt. Fuji. The second terrace is a 5-minute walk from the FUJIYAMA Twin Terrace bus stop, and the especially photogenic first terrace is about another 80 meters to the east. You can reach FUJIYAMA Twin Terrace by shuttle bus from the Sawatsuma-tei restaurant at Suzuran no Sato, or by shuttle bus or walking from the Suzuran Gunseichi parking area.

The Ide Brewery is the only sake brewery in the Fuji Five Lakes area. Its soy sauce and miso production date back roughly 300 years, while it has brewed sake for about 170 years. The brewery is well known for its Kaino-Kaiun brand. The cool climate at 850 meters above sea level and abundant spring water from Mt. Fuji produce aromatic, elegant-tasting sake. In 2020, the brewery also expanded into Whisky production, creating a distinct new aroma under the brand name Daijukai. Along with tastings and products for sale, you can take a brewery tour in English, where you’ll be guided on the brewing process and enjoying the final product (a distillery tour is included).

Ooike Hotel is an "onsen" (hot spring) "ryokan" inn with rooms offering spectacular views of Mt. Fuji. From the large bath, Mt. Fuji rises right in front of you and there’s also a garden open-air bath with ceramic bathtubs, offering a unique hot spring experience. Soaking in the waters with these views is itself a luxurious experience. The hotel is an especially comfortable choice for families to spend time together. It's equipped with a children's space with toys, a lounge where you can relax and unwind, and an area where you can try local wines from various parts of Yamanashi. Hasedera Temple, reportedly built in 736 AD, is Kamakura's second oldest Buddhist temple. The seasonal flowers and trees at this temple, referred to as "Kamakura's western paradise," bring visitors a sense of tranquility. In autumn, the maple and ginkgo trees are illuminated for a limited period. Around Myochi-ike Pond and Hosei-ike Pond, visitors can enjoy the beauty and wonder of the autumn leaves reflected on the water’s surface.

iL CHIANTI CAFE Enoshima is a café–restaurant right near the Enoshima Sea Candle (Shonan Observatory Lighthouse). Enjoy your meal here with a view out over the ocean. When the weather’s clear, you can see both the sea off the Enoshima coast and Mt. Fuji in the distance. The wide variety of authentic Italian-based dishes, including pizza using fresh local "shirasu" (baby sardines), are favorites on the menu. There's also an observation deck atop the restaurant, making this an even more of a popular spot to enjoy lunch or dinner while strolling around Enoshima.

Enoshima is an island rich with history, as evidenced by its portrayal in legendary "ukiyo-e" woodblock prints. Since ancient times, people came here to worship Benzaiten, the goddess of fortune. Among the attractions is the Samuel Cocking Garden. An English merchant in 1862 established this botanical garden, which features plants from the South Seas and seasonal flowers. You can also can visit the Enoshima Sea Candle, a lighthouse with an observation deck and that serves a symbol of the Shonan region. Explore the Enoshima Iwaya Caves, formed over many years by sea erosion. And from nearby Koshigoe Beach, you can enjoy sunset views of Enoshima itself and Mt. Fuji.

The Enoshima Yacht Harbor was originally built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and was the venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games sailing competitions. It is one of the largest public yacht harbors in Japan. The Enoshima Sailing Center is used as an operations facility for the 100+ sailing competitions held here each year. Other facilities such as cruiser yacht berths, a dinghy landing area, a center promenade, and the playground on Sazae Island also make this a popular place to relax and enjoy the ocean and green space.

The Japan National Stadium, the main stadium for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, offers stadium tours. You’ll get to see areas not usually open to the public, such as the athletes' locker rooms and the competition area, where you may still feel the energy from the events. Run around the track of this historic sports venue, and step onto the Olympic podium, constructed of recycled plastic, to get a feel for what the competitors themselves felt. See a wall signed by 300 of these athletes and sit on the same benches where they sat. You can create your own Olympic memories.

As the center of the Olympic movement in Japan, this museum introduces the history and value of the Olympics from different perspectives. Along with exhibits on the event's origins and history, there's a theater where you can experience the dynamism of Olympians through video and audio. There are also booths in which you can test your physical abilities compared with those of the athletes. At the neighboring Monument Area outdoor plaza, you can take commemorative photos with the iconic Olympic symbol and scale replicas of Olympic cauldrons from previous Olympics held in Japan.

This store offers a wide variety of kimonos, from casual to antique. Choose a design, try it on, and have your hair arranged to match. It’s fun and easy. Toei buses are a convenient way to get to Tokyo Skytree from Senso-ji. These buses are designed to be people-friendly, with no-step entrances that make it easier to get on and off, and with wheelchair spaces and ramps.

In areas of Tokyo frequented by foreign tourists, you'll find volunteers who provide sightseeing information in foreign languages. In addition to popular Asakusa, these volunteers work in areas including Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, Tokyo Station, and Nihonbashi, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can ask them for information about nearby attractions, where to buy souvenirs, places to eat, and other useful topics.

This restaurant serves up "chanko-nabe" (and seafood dishes in a sumo-style setting. "Chanko-nabe" is a hearty hot pot dish packed with seafood, fresh meat, and vegetables. Sumo wrestlers keep up their weight by consuming it in large quantities. Kappo Yoshiba, named after the former Miyagino stable and "yokozuna" grand champion Yoshibayama, contains an authentic sumo ring in which sumo wrestlers have trained. Traditional, cultural performances, including sumo "jinku" (sumo folk songs) and Tsugaru "shamisen," accompany your dining.

Water buses are a fun and easy way to enjoy the sights around Tokyo Bay and the Sumida River. The spectacular Rainbow Bridge isn’t usually seen from below, but the view from a water bus is especially impressive. The types of buses also range in design, from futuristic to those with open-air rooftop decks so you can enjoy the fresh breezes off the water. Choose the one you like. Viewing Tokyo from the water is a uniquely enjoyable experience.

The Hama-rikyu Gardens, which belonged to the ruling Tokugawa family during the Edo period, feature a tidal pond and two former wild duck-hunting sites. The Shiori-no-ike (tidal pond) has a coastal garden style in which seawater is drawn in and the pond's landscape changes with the tides' ebb and flow. It's the only such pond among the remaining Edo-period gardens in Tokyo. The garden contains black pines, camellias, sakura (cherry blossoms), and irises, treating visitors to changing scenery throughout the seasons. There's also a teahouse where you can enjoy Japanese sweets and matcha tea.

Ginza is Tokyo’s renowned upscale shopping district. Along with department stores such as Ginza Wako and GINZA SIX, there are many cultural attractions, such as the Kabuki-za theater and Noh theater, and many art galleries. There are also Michelin-starred restaurants and time-honored bars. Ginza-dori becomes a pedestrian thoroughfare on weekends and holiday afternoons, allowing for leisurely strolling and shopping.

Sagaya Ginza, which serves Japanese-branded Saga beef and seasonal dishes, and the world-renowned art collective teamLab collaborated to create this culinary space. MoonFlower is a restaurant with just eight seats and a permanent installation of teamLab's artwork, "Worlds Unleashed and then Connecting." When a dish is placed on the table, the world contained within it is "unleashed," unfolding onto the table and into the surrounding space. The restaurant’s theme is the changing scenery of the four seasons – a space where seasonal cuisine and art come together. Enjoy dishes made with seasonal ingredients and interactive digital art of seasonal flowers and trees displayed on the tableware and the surrounding space.

During the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, torch cauldrons were lit at the Olympic Stadium and the Ariake side of the Tokyo waterfront area Dream Bridge. The cauldrons were designed to resemble the sun, and their spheres opened like flowers to express the power of life and hope. After the Olympics concluded, the Ariake waterfront cauldron was reinstalled in the metropolitan Symbol Promenade Park. As part of the effort to realize a decarbonized society, this hydrogen-fueled torch cauldron, the first in the Games' history, is now added to the legacy and is part of Tokyo's new tourist attractions.

The Canoe Slalom Centre is the first artificial slalom course in Japan and was the venue for the canoe and slalom competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Centre now hosts canoeing and other water sports competitions and is a base for training athletes. It offers a variety of programs open to everyone, ranging from exciting whitewater rafting to canoeing on calm waters. Together with nearby Kasai Rinkai Park and other facilities, a range of activities are on offer for visitors, including barbecues and nature appreciation.
