Aokigahara Forest is a virgin forest that, for about 1,200 years, has grown on the lava earth from Mt. Fuji's 864 A.D. Jogan Eruption. The vast 3,000-hectare sea of green has a lush covering of moss, ferns, and trees. The lava tubes and deep forest are home to a variety of species, creating a mysterious, unique, and unusual landscape. The Fugaku Wind Cave, a natural monument, is one of the largest naturally occurring caves created by lava flows. Following a tour course to see icicles that, even in summer, do not melt, along with lava shelves and rope-shaped lava.

"Houtou," a signature local dish of Yamanashi, is made with thick, chewy noodles simmered in a miso broth together with pumpkin, mountain vegetables, and other delicacies from the Mt. Fuji foothills. The flavor and richness of the ingredients come together for a rustic and hearty dish. Another treat, Houtou Fudou's special "inari" (fried tofu pockets with sushi rice inside) cooked with brown sugar, has a slightly refined sweetness that makes it especially popular. The Riso-en fruit farm aims for visitors to both eat and experience. Yamanashi, Japan’s top fruit-producing region, is especially well known for grapes and peaches. Located in a geological basin, this area undergoes wide temperature differences between morning and evening, which leads to especially sweet fruit.
