Aokigahara Forest is a virgin forest that, for about 1,200 years, has grown on the lava earth from Mt. Fuji's 864 A.D. Jogan Eruption. The vast 3,000-hectare sea of green has a lush covering of moss, ferns, and trees. The lava tubes and deep forest are home to a variety of species, creating a mysterious, unique, and unusual landscape. The Fugaku Wind Cave, a natural monument, is one of the largest naturally occurring caves created by lava flows. Following a tour course to see icicles that, even in summer, do not melt, along with lava shelves and rope-shaped lava.
