The Kitakamakura Houan teahouse is near the Zen temple Jochi-ji in Kitakamakura, which is called the "home of Zen." Modernist architect Bunzo Yamaguchi conceived the beautiful design of this teahouse, which was built in 1934. While Houan is usually closed to the public, one day each month, there is an open house where visitors can come and enjoy matcha tea and Japanese sweets. (Reservations are required and a fee is charged.)
