Jogashima Park
Jogashima Park is a prefectural park occupying the eastern half of Jogashima, the southernmost tip of the Miura Peninsula. It is a scenic spot listed with two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. A unique grassland landscape created by strong winds and sunlight from the Pacific Ocean spreads out, and black pines lean inward toward the island, stretching their branches as if to avoid the wind. Seaside plants bloom throughout the seasons, including hydrangeas in summer, Hachijo susuki (a variety of tall, Miscanthus grass with silvery plumes) in autumn, and Yaesuisen (Narcissus) in winter. From November to April, visitors can enjoy the seasonal sight of cormorants and black-crowned night herons flying in. From the observation rest area, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view unique to the island, including the rough waves crashing against the reefs, the panoramic view from the Boso Peninsula to the Izu Peninsula, and the majestic Mt. Fuji.
