Yokosuka Dobuita Street
Dobuita Street is a shopping district in Honcho, Yokosuka City, stretching from Keikyu Shioiri Station to the U.S. Naval Base. Locally known affectionately as “Dobuita,” its name originates from the iron plates used to cover a drainage canal that flowed down the center of the street during the Meiji era. After World War II, it flourished as a town for the U.S. military stationed in Yokosuka. Today, it is known throughout Japan as a shopping district attracting many Japanese visitors from both within and outside the city. A variety of businesses lined-up side by side—portrait studios, military shops, souvenir shops, foreigner bars, and restaurants—create a unique shopping district where both Japanese and American atmospheres blend, defining Dobuita Street's charm.
