Tamasaki Shrine
The prestigious Tamasaki Shrine’s history dates back over 1,200 years. Visitors are said to be blessed with good fortune for matchmaking and safe childbirth. The shrine’s first "torii" gate faces due east and the sun rising from the ocean at Kujukuri illuminates it on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. From New Year's Eve through New Year's Day, the shrine presents Kazusa Kagura dancing, a prefecture-designated intangible folk cultural property, while offering "amazake" (sweet sake) and "mochi" (pounded rice cakes).
